lyrics

Break in the Rain

I've been waiting too long, for a break in the rain

Making up some new truth, watching these old clouds move

I'm thinking I might do the same

I'll will set up my chair here and rock me to the edge of this porch

Hoping I might fall down into the grass and muddy ground

And be someplace I've never seen before

Well I got these two feet, but damn them

A broken heart can't beat worth living

And I'm here in the rain and sleet and the wind

God give me a river and wash me away

I've been crying for days now and

Somehow the sun never ceases to shine

Lord is this some big trick tell me I can make it

And cross into your loving light

Well I got these two feet, but damn them

A broken heart can't beat worth living

And I'm here in the rain and sleet and the wind

God give me a river and wash me away

When the man from the town came

He took more than my dear Jenilee

He took my boy Isaiah, and when I see the rain come

I feel like he done taken all of me

I got these two feet, but damn them

A broken heart can't beat worth the living

I cried and I witnessed lord as he took them

God give me a river and wash me away

God gave me a river and washed me away

In Confidence

Well it’s always been this way

And I can’t stop it

I’m not asking you to change

The way you’re living

It’s harder on you than me

It’s harder on you

But holy hell, girl

That’s where you’re going tonight

It’s where you’re headed in life

Turning your back on the story

And it gains ground

So you write me in just to knock it out

But I’ll never get around

To your holy, holy hell

You archive every thought

And seldom speak

Cause you love it put-upon

All that I need

It’s harder on you than me

It’s harder on me

Cause I’ve seen…

Holy hell, girl

And that’s where we’re going tonight

It’s where we’re headed in life

Turning your back on the story

And it gains ground

So you write me in just to knock it out

But I’ll never get around

To your holy, holy hell

It’s harder on you

It’s harder on you

It’s harder on you

It’s hard

Holy hell, girl

That’s where we’re going

It’s where we’re headed

Turning your back on the story

And it gains ground

So you write me in just to knock it out

But I’ll never get around

To your holy, holy, holy

To your holy, holy, holy,

To your holy, holy hell

It’s harder on you

It’s harder on you

Monument

Hold on, this is what I need

Four walls to help completing me

Is it worth talking

Are we putting this to rest

I want a change

But there is no comparison

What if the sky fell tomorrow

Down on my monument

And all of the love that we left there

Imperfect document

Cause when you are gone from this place

The past feels so present

What if all that we had dreamt up

In spite, it still exists

Because it is

Hold out

The world will not slow down

Some things

You have to live without

Within boundaries

You cannot go around

Like this place

To which I am bound

What if the sky fell tomorrow

Down on my monument

And all of the love that we left there

Imperfect document

Cause when you are gone from this place

The past feels so present

What if all that we had dreamt up

In spite, it still exists

Because it is

Because it is

Lille

When the world writes down your name

They won't know

Disclose the target of your aim

And let me go

Come and take off all your cares

I won't say

Is distance ever really there

Invade

Invade

It's all that I can do

I cannot lie if I don't know truth

Do you see me when I speak to you

If all is lost, give me proof

If all is lost, give me proof

If there ever was a use

For my love

Justify me as a muse

Enough

Cause I don't act upon your life

The same

But you're an agent of my heart

Invade

Invade

It's all that I can do

I cannot lie if I don't know truth

Do you see me when I speak to you

If all is lost, give me proof

If all is lost, give me proof

Rebecca Henry

Rebecca Henry puts her shoes on different from me, this I know

And when she’s angry Rebecca Henry she grits her teeth to let it show

Rebecca Henry walks on the holy water that you drown in every day

She smells like cigarettes, she’s never having kids

She doesn’t know her maker’s name

I wanna know who made her

‘Cause she’s got a Walden pond hidden around somewhere

I’m gonna find it and make a little sense

Ask her for the time, she says you are and so am I

But I, I have to admit

Rebecca Henry doesn’t see me, so I don’t exist

Rebecca Henry sells her paintings to her parents and their friends

But if I had money, if I had eyes to see, she’d have my currency instead

Rebecca Henry got for herself a degree

And now she knows the truth, I can’t help but believe

If I have limbs to reach and she has lungs to breathe

There are mouths to kiss like the sand and the sea

‘Cause she’s got an answer hidden around somewhere

I’m gonna find it and make a little sense

Ask her for the time, she says you are and so am I

But I, I have to admit

Rebecca Henry doesn’t see me, so I don’t exist

‘Cause she’s got a Walden pond hidden around somewhere

I’m gonna find it and make a little sense

Ask her for the time, she says you are and so am I

But I, I have to admit

Rebecca Henry doesn’t see me, so I don’t exist

Then, Now

I may not remember

The first time I saw you

Cause this was a slow burn

The pace of your laughter

And avoiding capture

Was my only concern

Oh but then we were lovers

Just watching the sun rise

With coffee in bed

You take me back to the mountains

Reciting your poems

With my head on your chest

Are we who we were then, now?

And will you come back if I change

I loved you so much that I fell away

And I miss your touch every day

These days you don’t look at me

And I cannot blame you

It’s hard on your heart

Our journals are empty

Nothing is missing

It’s not who we are

I wish I knew the answer

I hope this goes away

I wish I knew the answer

I just want you to stay

Catherine Street

I set up shop on Catherine Street

The rain it pours, it soaks my feet

And when it snows, no one can see

It melts like tears upon my cheeks

Your holy words, you're helpless eyes

I'll hold you back you'll take my life

So when I'm gone, don't be surprised

I've got a plan, I'm doing fine

Take care to meet yourself if you have to go away

It’s a necessary evil, it is hidden in the sham

You can find me there in the back of the train

I’ve been writing you this letter

Since the day I saw the rain

Coming down, down on Catherine street

The snow and ice crack underfoot

We make our way past lamplight crooks

The wind it blew then, but nothing shook

The night my motive finally took

Take care to meet yourself if you have to go away

It’s a necessary evil, it is hidden in the sham

You can find me there in the back of the train

I’ve been writing you this letter

Since the day I saw the rain

Coming down, down on Catherine street

Take care to meet yourself if you have to go away

It’s a necessary evil, it is hidden in the sham

You can find me there in the back of the train

I’ve been writing you this letter

Since the day I saw the rain

Coming down, down on Catherine street

Illuminations

I've got this book here

Can't put it down, I

Won't sleep a wink tonight

My mind harbors worry, it's omnipresent

It's moving towards me, yet

Cause I know every outline

I know every curve of every letter

That makes its way into the word

And illuminations make it worse

Illuminations make it worse

Oh dear

We don't need cover art

I know the ending

I saw the narrative arc

You, unsuspecting will save my teary eyes

Save your precious time

Cause I know every outline

I know every curve of every letter

That makes its way into the word

And illuminations make it worse

Illuminations make it worse

Oh dear

Cause I know every outline

I know every curve of every letter

That makes its way into the word

And illuminations make it worse

Illuminations make it worse

Oh dear
